Wednesday, September 28 – 7 pm, Irish History Project Meeting. In order to keep this important project going, the participation of more members is still needed! Plans are being made for mailings, and for interviews with IHSM members for the first phase of the project. Please attend this meeting and contribute a few hours of your time and energy and ideas!
Sunday, October 2 – Historical Program, 1 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Join us for an exciting and informative historical program about Michael Collins, soldier and politician, and a leading figure in the struggle for Irish independence in the early 20th century. The presentation will be given by leading expert on the subject, Professor William Matthews of UMass, who has spoken before many Irish-American organizations throughout New England. In 2006 Prof. Matthews was invited to lecture in Clonakilty, West Cork, native home of Michael Collins.Light refreshments and music by the Shamrogues will follow. This is a free event thanks to the generous support of IHSM and Slainte Milford. Advance reservations are required by September 28; members are encouraged to bring interested friends and family. Tuesday, October 11 – doors open 6:00 pm,Irish Authors/Poets- Readings and Book Signings at 6:30.
Lisa Taylor, the poet who read at our clubhouse dedication and Dr. Aideen Henry (touring from Ireland) will read from their works for us! Both women will bring copies of their books for sale and signing following the readings. Refreshments will be served. Bar will be open prior to and following the event, but will close from 6:30 to 7:30 during the readings as a courtesy to the artists. Free, but reservations required by 10/6, please! Thursday October 13 – 6-8 pm, IHSM Book Discussion Group. Book selection is Brooklyn, by Colm Toibin.Only requirement is to have read the book, and be willing to discuss it. Tuesday, November 1st – Celtic Drum Circle 7 – 9 pm, in conjunction with the Celtic Harvest Feast Day, “Samhainn”. Aspects of Celtic mythology, along with music and poetry,will be a part of this unique and exhilarating health and wellness experience! Give it a try – you will love it! Cost: $10 per person. Sunday, November 27 – 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm, Annual Wagon Ride with Santa: Due to the increasing popularity of the wagon rides, Mapleview Farm(603 Orange Center Road, Orange) requires us to firm up our reservations very soon. The event has become an annual IHSM tradition, and it is a charming family afternoon, with the Santa himself riding with us on the horse-drawn wagon ride, complete with sing-a-long. Excellent photo ops for your Christmas cards, too! Jenn Hussey has reserved the 2:00 and 2:30 rides which will hold about 40-45 people total. The ride is reservation only and cost is $5 per person, for 1 year and older. Reservations are required and payments due by September 27th. To reserve your spots, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-605-7743, or sign up at 8/30 meeting, with the number of adults, number of children and their ages, as that impacts the capacity of the sleigh. You’ll be notified of the time you’re reserved for once all reservations are made.
