Tara Theatre Presents BLOOD
Blood: More Than a Play — Our Story
We were drawn to Blood not only because of its exceptional writing, but because of how powerfully it represents Irish history and portrays the real struggles of the time.
When we first produced this play, the roles of these powerful historical men were performed by male actors. Now, with the opportunity to stage it again, we are proud to realize a long-held dream — to have women portray these strong and significant figures.
We wanted to produce a work we could feel deeply passionate about, and Blood has given us that opportunity. This production allows us to highlight that strength, leadership, and power are not defined by gender, and that women can embody these historic, commanding roles with the same depth, authority, and impact.
As a theatre affiliated with the Irish Heritage Society of Milford, we also feel a responsibility to educate our community. Through this production, we hope to deepen understanding among our fellow members about the true struggles and sacrifices endured by those who fought bravely for Ireland’s independence.
This year, the Irish Heritage Society proudly celebrates its 20th Anniversary — a milestone that makes this production especially poignant. When the Society first began, there was no permanent home. Members met in local venues, united by a shared vision and determination to create a place where Irish culture could be preserved and celebrated. Through hard work, dedication, and more than a little Irish stubbornness, that dream became a reality. Today, the Society is the proud owner of a beautiful establishment that showcases the richness of Irish heritage through the arts and community.
Blood is the perfect play to mark this occasion, as it reflects the very spirit that built our Society — the passion, resilience, and commitment that prove what can be achieved when people believe deeply in a cause.
